About

1UP Kids Foundation was started by video game developers who are also parents of young children, and who want hospital stays to feel a little more like childhood. Founded in 2021 and based in Indianola, Washington, we’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that plans to bring video games and play to kids in the hospital.

Why “1UP”?

In video games, a 1UP is an extra life: one more chance to keep playing. That’s what we hope to give kids who are spending time in the hospital.

Why games?

A hospital stay can mean long days in one room, away from school, friends and the things kids love. Games are something most kids already know and enjoy. They can be a welcome break, and something to share with brothers, sisters and friends who come to visit.

What we plan to do

  • Put game consoles, handheld systems and games in children’s hospital units.
  • Make grants to nonprofits that serve kids, especially those that bring play into hospitals and other care settings.

We’re a new foundation preparing our first program. We’ll post updates here as it takes shape.
